 The Good Harbor Area could well be called the heart of Leelanau County. Between the sheltering landmarks of Pyramid Point to the south and Whaleback to north, Good Harbor Bay served as an early haven for ships in times of storm. The Bay drew early settlers to Leelanau, who stayed to farm and log the area. The town of North Unity has long since been erased from most memories, its once grand dock no more than a few worn pilings at Good Harbor Beach, but the communities of Cedar and Maple City endure.
