May 2008
Every month we make a post where you can let folks know about news items, fun things you did and observations of what’s happening in the great outdoors.
Every May we know we can expect cherry blossoms and the beginning of the summer travel season.
This May on Leelanau.com, we’re also going to be focusing on summer travel with stories about cool vacation ideas and (hopefully) some vacation giveaways courtesy some of our great sponsors.
Stay tuned!

Spring cleaning my cottage in early May turned into major UV collection! How do I explain that?
Hey Janet, thought I replied to this! I notice I get the worst sunburns in May. I think it’s due to the angle of the sun (we’re just a month from the peak) plus the fact that it’s cool so we don’t feel the rays. Could be tied to ozone though. I bet this page has the answer though!

We have a TON of tiny flies out (was like snow yesterday).
Anyone know what they are? I found this page with Michigan fly hatches:

Check out these Ranger-led walks in the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore every Saturday in May: frogs, beaver lodges, wild flowers and migratory birds.
Last night we reached a record low temperature of 28 degrees. No word from the farmers yet on the impact.
