Community in northern Michigan (as elsewhere) is a many-faceted
thing. We are all concerned about the strength of our families and the
well-being of their members. We also look to the health of the community as a whole, our local and regional governments, schools, associations and businesses, and how each unit, from Traverse City to Rapid City fits in to the
network of the region. Their are many initiatives afoot to combine the work of different groups into larger wholes. Still, with centralization may come greater efficiency, but there is also the risk of becoming too large, forgetting silent, but vital parts like our children and small towns.
