Leelanau Mornign by Tom Oswald Fog
Water from another place
Another time settles
The land

Trees
Bonelike and leafless
Cling to themselves
While the hills

Climb
Wearily into nothing
Where sky mist and land come
Together

Deer
Graze on M-22
A string of a road
That pulls

You
Deeper into the land
Into a place that you
Don't leave

Barns
And shacks and privies
And stumps dot the gray
Green slopes

Dunes
Brown moving full of life
Endlessly change and remain
Constant

When
The sun reaches the tree tops
The day fulfills its promise
The mist

Gone
Like the call of a crow
Retreats to woods and waits for
New day.
