Bad air over Leelanau County this morning!
Readings from IQAir show that the Leelanau Peninsula has some of the worst air quality in the state this morning with an average AQI of 400! AQI stands for Air Quality Index which is the Environmental Protection Agency’s tool to communicate the level of p5 major pollutants in the air:
- ground-level ozone (atmospheric = good, ground level = bad
- particle pollution (also known as particulate matter, including PM2.5 and PM10)
- carbon monoxide
- sulfur dioxide
- nitrogen dioxide
As you can see, the entire region is facing a very unhealthy situation today! The State of Michigan has a number of recommendations for keeping yourself as safe as possible from negative health impacts of wildfire smoke including keeping doors & windows closed, running the A/C without fresh air intake, using tight fitting masks or respirators, and shortening your time outdoors wherever possible. Stay safe folks!!
