Glen Arbor is close by on the shore of Lake Michigan’s Sleeping Bear Bay and boasts a wide range of shops, art galleries & restaurants. You’ll want to grab a burger at Art’s and if you need anything, Anderson’s is a full-service grocery store with an excellent meat department & selection of local products including beer & wine.
Empire is nearby as well with excellent public beaches on Lake Michigan and North & South Bar Lakes. Empire has a really neat historical museum, shops with a surf shop & a gallery, and a couple of good restaurants including Tiffany’s for ice cream!
The Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore is famous as the largest grouping of coastal sand dune in the world. The 100+ square mile national park with over 35 miles of Lake Michigan shoreline was established in 1970 and features miles & miles of sandy beaches, bluffs that tower above Lake Michigan, lush forests, clear inland lakes like Big & Little Glen Lakes, the US Life-Saving Service station that’s now a maritime museum, picturesque & preserved farmsteads, and a wide range of trails that let you explore to your heart’s content!
