Leland's Champion Poplar to be Cut
The Traverse City Record-Eagle reports that the champion white poplar in downtown Leland will be taken down in January. The tree is over a century old and over 100 feet tall but recently several complaints regarding falling limbs prompted the road commission’s decision. The vote was 2-1 for removal with John Popa saying he wanted to give residents a chance to find an alternative solution and wait until spring.
