2014 Suttons Bay Yeti Fest
Last year the first annual Suttons Bay YetiFest attracted over 1,000 people, and the YetiFest returns on Saturday, February 15th. In addition to the Yeti look-alike contest the day-long celebration features a winter bicycle race, four-on-four pond hockey tournament, “kid’s expeditionary parade” and family-friendly films at the Bay Theatre.
“It’s really just a way for us to get out and enjoy the winter, and to share that enjoyment with other people, says organizer Karen Pontius. Any proceeds are donated to fund improvements to the village by the Chamber, the Suttons Bay Schools, and Traverse Area Recreational and Transportation Trails.
The center of the day is the 60 minute race on 1.6 mile circuit course of packed snow, a little pavement, one beach leg and the infamous YetiFest snow obstacles. The course will be lined with spectators also enjoying the micro brew tent and chili cook off. Pack your snow bike or mountain bike and leave the skinny wheels at home!
