Leelanau Almanac for the Week of June 15 – June 21, 2006

The Week’s News
The top story of the week was the announcement of a purchase deal for Fishtown for a purchase price of $3 million that includes all historic structures on the north side of the Leland River (there’s also a great photo of Fishtown from 1973 that you’ll definitely want to check out). Other stories include a feature on migrant workers in Leelanau and Northern Michigan and news that a late spring frost has caused fairly extensive damage to tart & sweet cherries and apples.
The Week’s Weather

Strawberries are ripe and there’s a great feature on Michigan strawberries from Taste the Local Difference and Absolute Michigan. We had our first really hot weekend last weekend and a beautiful week this week.
