Start growing tomorrow’s trees today with the Leelanau Seedling Sale

April 10, 2026/in Featured, gardening, Leelanau, photo, preservation, Shopping

The Golden Season by Mark Smith

The Leelanau Conservation District’s annual Spring Seedling Sale is underway with a new deadline of April 17, 2026 (pickup remains April 24).

This gives you a great chance to order some of the trees and shrubs are an important part of Leelanau’s natural ecosystem. About 50 percent of our state is forestland, and the plants that make up our forests provide food in the form of fruits, berries, and hard mast (nuts) for a wide variety of wildlife.

Click for the Seedling Sale order form and for sure check out their Native Seedling Bundles as a way to help turn your property into a force to help birds or pollinators like bees & butterflies, or to renew the forest or the waters within.

Every time I see a 70+ year old Sugar maple like the ones in this photo by Mark Smith from fall 2022, I give thanks for the person who planted it or helped it grow. Can’t imagine the Leelanau Peninsula without maples or all the other trees, and hopefully I’ll never have to. See more from Mark in his The Road gallery on Flickr and for sure check out his Leelanau Landscapes website for more.
