Northern Lights likely tonight over Leelanau!
Aurora over Holy Rosary Catholic Church. by Watermark Photography
The NOAA / NWS Space Weather Prediction Center issued a G3 Aurora Alert this morning after detecting THREE Coronal Mass Ejection (CME) heading our way. Details are in the image or on their website, but the current forecast calls for combined CME arrival around mid-afternoon EDT of June 4, with up to G3 levels possible afterwards, possibly continuing into Friday night. You can read about the various scales used to measure the aurora, but a G3 alert means that that Northern Lights are LIKELY over Leelanau tonight!
Jeff took this photo back in 2024 and relates “Last night’s Aurora display did not disappoint… I wanted to shoot this church in Leelanau County. Very difficult with 3 street lights around it, so I have to bracket 9 shots to get it right.”
It definitely did not disappoint – follow Watermark Photography on Facebook for more!
