Leelanau Labor Day Bridge Walks

While many of us would probably like to join in the annual Mackinac Bridge Walk on Labor Day, it’s kind of a drive to Mackinac City, the bridge is 5 miles long, and if we did it, we wouldn’t be in Leelanau County on Labor Day!

Fortunately, we have some great local options that will leave you plenty of time for that last lounge on the beach!

The village of Lake Leelanau kicks things off at 9 AM Monday with their 3rd Annual Labor Day Lake Leelanau Bridge Walk. The walk starts at Pedaling Beans, ends at The Redheads and is organized by Lake Leelanau Community Association.

Leland hosts their annual Labor Day Bridge Walk beginning promptly at Noon on the north side of the M-22 Bridge. It’s Leelanau’s shortest bridge, so don’t blink or you’ll miss it! We haven’t been able to confirm online, but oftentimes there’s lemonade and cookies on the Art Building Lawn following the walk.

The Glen Lake Labor Day Bridge Walk kicks off at 12 noon as well at the Narrows between Big & Little Glen Lakes. This walk might take 6 minutes so eat a good breakfast!

Labor Day Weekend is also a great time to explore all the fantastic beaches in the area.  Many people have heard that the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore is the most beautiful place in (Good Morning) America. For one look at why, check out North Bar Lake with everything from lounging in the sun to swimming in toasty warm North Bar, playing in the waves on a pristine stretch of Lake Michigan shore and even enjoying Leelanau’s best skim boarding on the tiny channel that connects the two lakes!  For more, visit our Sleeping Bear Dunes page.
