This Week in Leelanau
I really try to get these out on Thursdays – summertime in Northern Michigan is just so darn distracting!!

The Glen Arbor Sun has a great story about Growth in Glen Arbor by Keenan May and Peter Spaulding. Happy colorsThey also report that current Sugar Loaf Owner Kate Wickstrom has confirmed that two buyers are interested in Sugar Loaf – one of which may partner with Liko Smith. Apparently a different buyer, whose identity she wouldn’t disclose, emerged in May, and she said “The guy’s not interested in putting a city out there. He’s geared more toward the kids and family. He had been interested in the area, and followed the blogs and news (about Liko Smith), and then he contacted me about two months ago.”

We’ve been hearing from Kate and others about the whole deal on the Sugar Loaf blog at Leelanau.com. Our featured sound bite is from Kate herself responding to a question from Mark about why it’s taking so long:
“These things take time Mark. It’s not like going in buying a burger.”

While these things may take time, I have to say that I feel that if Sugar Loaf were a burger, it would be on the “charcoal” side of well done…

Glen Arbor PierThe Weather…
LeelanauLens took this photo from the Glen Arbor Pier a year ago, but that’s about what it looked like this week – gorgeous summer weather!

It’s 86 degrees under sunny skies at 2:30 PM at Leelanau Coffee Roasting in Glen Arbor. The record low for a July 16th of 40 degrees set was set waaaay back in 1898 with the high of 98 set in 2006. The forecast for today calls for sunny skies with temps in the mid to upper 80s and southwest winds at 10-20. Saturday’s forecast is for sunny skies and 80s again. There’s a slight chance of rain on Sunday with 80s again and partly to mostly cloudy skies.
