Had a major scare last night that reinforces how dangerous driving is – hope everyone remembers how important it is to be safe on the roads!

Suttons Bay Streetscape now online

Planning documents for the new Suttons Bay Streetscape Project for St. Joseph/M22 through Suttons Bay are posted online. A series of four workshops gathered input from the public with the goal of creating a safe and calm traffic system while achieving a streetscape design that addresses the needs of the community and preserves the present character of the Village. Harvest Stompede Wine Trail Weekend ~ September 18 & 19
The Leelanau Peninsula Vintners Association’s annual Harvest Stompede Vineyard Run & Walk and Wine Tour takes place takes place Saturday September 18 & Sunday September 19. Race registration is now closed, but it’s a great event for spectators as well with a ONE OF A KIND course that winds through vineyard rows.

The Harvest Stompede Wine Tour follows the race and offers a special pour and food pairing. Recognizing that nothing goes better with local wine than local food, the 18 wineries of the Leelanau Wine Trail will each be featuring local items in their food pairings!

Michigan Schooner Festival – September 10-12, 2010
The second annual Michigan Schooner Festival sets sail September 10-12 on West Bay in Traverse City at Open Space Park and Clinch Park Marina. The festival will feature seven tall ships including Leelanau’s own schooner Inland Seas aka the Great Lakes Schoolship. It kicks off tonight (September 10) with the Grand Parade of Sail as the seven vessels sail down West Grand Traverse Bay together and dock at Clinch Marina. Other weekend highlights include ship tours, food, entertainment, the Ring of Steel p
irate reenactment troupe, artist vendors, kids games, and ticketed sailings including a special “gun battle sail” aboard the Armed Sloop Welcome.

Leland Heritage Celebration ~ September 18 & 19, 2010
The annual Leland Heritage Celebration takes place September 18 & 19. This annual event is free and open to the public. Highlights include the Leelanau Historical Museum’s “Wooden Boats on the Wall”, Van’s Garage antique car show, and the Fishtown Preservation Society offering music and festivities in Fishtown. There will also be an exhibit titled “Windows on Leelanau; Past, Present, and Future” at the Old Art Building and a Fall Used Book Sale at the Library with display of the books of Leelanau County authors and books about Leelanau County. The Weather

Ken Scott took this photo at the Pyramid Point Overlook in the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore – if you’ve never seen this view of the Manitou Islands, you should definitely lace up your hiking and head out!

It’s an even 70 degrees under sunny skies at 1:45 PM at Leelanau Coffee Roasting in Glen Arbor. The record high for a September 10th was 96 degrees in 1931, but we came closer to the record low of 33 from 1967 with our early morning reading of 47. Look for sun and 70 for the rest of the day and not as cool overnight. For the weekend, expect mostly cloudy skies with rain possible and highs in the 60s. Sunday we’ll see sun and 70s!
