Uber joins Lyft in Traverse City area
Ride-sharing pioneer Uber has joined Lyft, and will be providing service to all of the Leelanau Peninsula. As you can see from the map, it’s a much smaller area than Lyft covers, so Benzie County didn’t get the same treatment. UpNorth Live reports:
Uber has announced that they will be expanding their service to Traverse City, Mi. Starting October 17, both Uber X and Uber XL will be available for residents in Grand Traverse and Leelanau counties.
Uber allows users to request a ride with the touch of a button on their smartphone. Drivers who pass a background check use their own cars to offer rides on a flexible schedule.…This comes after another popular ride sharing app Lyft went live across all of Michigan at the end of August.
To celebrate the launch, Uber is offering up to $15 dollars off your first ride by using the promo code “TRAVERSECITY”. That promo will be good until December 15. Over the next few weeks, Uber will be on boarding Traverse City residents interested in driving. For more information on how you can become an Uber driver, follow THIS LINK.
I fiddled around with their pricing, and it looks like a ride from Leland to Traverse City will be in the $30-40 range, a few bucks more than Lyft’s estimate.
