International Animation Festival at the State Theatre
The Art Place, a non-profit animation and film studio in Traverse City, is sponsoring a local celebration of the 6th annual International Animation Day at the State Theatre on Tuesday, October 28th. The family friendly program starts at 6:30 pm and admission is free for everyone.
The festival will include the premiere screening of The Cardboard Piano by Newberry Award winner, Lynne Rae Perkins, along with 80 minutes of independently made shorts from inspiring Michigan and National animators. TAP’s Get Animated: Favorite Things to do in Traverse City in the Summer facilitated by Scott Tompkins and Chris Allen-Wickler will also make its premiere at the fest.
In 2002, the International Animated Film Association (ASIFA), launched a global event to celebrate the art of animation! October 28th was proclaimed International Animation Day, commemorating the first public performance of Emile Reynaud’s Theatre Optique at the Grevin Museum in Paris in 1892.
There are now over 30 ASIFA children workshop groups throughout the world including The Art Place!
