Science Alert shares that the full Wolf Supermoon of January 3rd is going to put in one of the brightest appearances of which our Moon is capable because in addition to being closer to the Earth than most moons (the Supermoon part that boosts brightness 14-30%), the full moon is just hours from a perihelion aka the point in Earth’s orbit at which it is closest to the Sun. As an added bonus, the NOAA/NWS Space Weather Prediction Center has issued a G2 level watch, meaning that there’s a better than normal chance of Northern Lights!!

Trish took this photo of a full supermoon over Suttons Bay way back in March of 2011. See more in her The Sun, The Moon, and Stars, etc. gallery and here’s hoping your 2026 gets off to a great start!
