Sugar Loaf demolition to begin this month

Bad Shape at Sugar LoafThe Glen Arbor Sun reports that the new (and currently unknown) Sugar Loaf Resort owner announced today that Kalamazoo’s Taplin Enterprises, LLC has been awarded the demolition contract for the former ski resort property:

Taplin offers a broad range of services and has a rich history of experience and proven expertise in the environmental services and demolition industry. During the selection process, it became evident by the owners that Taplin had the experience, capabilities and mindset to not only conduct the work effectively, but also to do it in a way that respects the local residents and community. The contract includes the demolition of the main resort/hotel, as well as several buildings and structures on the mountain and surrounding areas. Additionally, general site cleanup will occur in and around the resort and associated resort properties.

Taplin has a long history and proven expertise in the environmental services and demolition industry throughout the Midwest. The firm also performed initial material cleanup work at the property earlier this year.

The demolition is scheduled to begin later this summer and conclude in the fall. The first tasks of the project will include securing the main resort buildings and obtaining the necessary permits and approvals for the project. Throughout the demolition process, all materials will be managed appropriately, including transporting, disposing and recycling materials off site. After demolition, each project area will be backfilled, restored to area grade and seeded.
