This Week in Leelanau
The weather cooled off a little and we FINALLY got some rain. Pretty busy with this whole Traverse City Wine & Art Festival thing, so here’s five thoughts and some weather.Woolsey Airport

1. Woolsey Airport Fly In & Breakfast

I absolutely love this event. If you have never been, go. If you have gone in the past, maybe it’s time to go again. Pancakes and planes – what more could you want? Head over to the Fly-in Breakfast on Leelanau.com to learn more about this classic Leelanau event, Woolsey Airport and Clinton F. Woolsey: …a Northport native son born in 1894, was considered one of the nation’s best pilots in the Army Air Corps in the 1920s. He died a hero when he and his co-pilot, John W. Benton, were killed in a 1927 mid-air collision near Buenos Aires during the first-ever U.S. international goodwill flight to 23 Central and South American countries.BearonUS31nearHonor-GrandTraverseRegionalLandConservancy

2. Bears in the Sleeping Bear

Hey-hey Boo-Boo – better keep an eye on that pic-i-nic basket because black bear sightings are on the rise in the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore. The Glen Arbor Sun says that bears have been observed near the Platte River Campground. Visitors have observed black bears crossing Lake Michigan Road, in the Platte River, and even traveling through the Platte River Campground. I'm a Sugar Loafer

3. He’s Baaaaaaack

Liko Smith has resurfaced and posted a lot over the last week. His first one begins I have not heard from Remo, I have not heard from the investors in Indianapolis, I have not heard from anyone. It’s my guess that it’s summertime, there is no need to rush things, the kids are swimming and since Kate has run out of lies, or innuendos or please of innocence or claims of ghost buyers, there are no more words from her either. I would imagine that the easiest course is no course at all for everyone involved at this point. There’s more from Kate and other folks, so dive in

4. The Rachel Davis Band w/ Josh Davis

Two of Michigan’s premier young singer-songwriters, Joshua Davis and Rachael Davis will be at the Old Art Building in Leland next Wednesday (August 25) at 7:30 PM. Rachael is an award winning singer-songwriter with an amazing voice and is joined by her good friend Josh of Steppin in It . They’re joined by Dominic John Davis and if you can make it, do it – their sweet, soulful sound will make your week a better place!-26

The Weather

It’s 66 degrees under mostly cloudy skies at 10:45 AM at Leelanau Coffee Roasting in Glen Arbor.  The record high for an August 20th was 98 degrees waaaaaay back in 1916 with the record low of 38 set in 1977. We’ll be closer to the top end with partly sunny skies, a chance of scattered showers and highs in the mid 80s. Rain is likely overnight and there’s a chance tomorrow morning as well before clouds give way to sun and mid 80s on Saturday. More sun on Sunday with highs in the 80s again!
