Leelanau on Location: Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore Dune Climb

July 9, 2007/in family, fun, hiking, lake michigan, Leelanau, map, michigan

Dune Climb by 1CherIt may be fashionable to dis the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore Dune Climb, but step for step, it’s one of the most fun things for families (and people who like to run at extremely high speeds) to do in the state of Michigan and the payoff for hiking up that wall of sand is an absolutely spectacular view of Little & Big Glen Lakes and Alligator Hill.

The Dune Climb is located between Empire & Glen Arbor on M-109 and features a park store/information center, modern restrooms and a large picnic area. The adventurous can make the 3.5 mile round trip hike up the dunes and back to Lake Michigan.

You can get more about the dunes from the National Park Service, Leelanau.com’s Unofficial Sleeping Bear Dunes page and see dunes photos in the Leelanau.com pool on Flickr.
