The NASA/NOAA Space Weather Prediction Center outlook for tonight says that Northern Lights are likely tonight in Leelanau.

We've shared this before, but Space.com has an interesting story about how the upcoming Perseid Meteor shower (peak August 11-13) came to be known as “The Tears of St. Lawrence” and also some of the science behind this annual August sky show.

Comet Neowise is putting on a show!
Space.com says that those who have gotten up before sunrise to gaze into the twilight skies have been greeted by the best comet performance for Northern Hemisphere observers since the 1997 appearance of Comet Hale-Bopp, and now you can see it after sunset.

Pierce Stocking Scenic Drive re-opens
The Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore announces that today, Saturday, July 11th, the Pierce Stocking Scenic Drive will be opening on a limited basis.

2020 Lyrid Meteor Shower on tap!
The annual Lyrid Meteor Shower is a more variable shower than the Perseid or Leonid showers, but it has still produced some impressive showers in the past AND we are blessed with a waning moon that will make viewing a lot better April 19-23!

mLive reports that some wild weather is on the way for Leelanau with wind gusts in excess of 50 mph & even some snow!

Boating clarified under Michigan’s Covid-19 Order
Governor Gretchen Whitmer has extended the Covid-19 Executive Order for Michigan until April 30th. Clarifications were also issued in a FAQ including that powered boating doesn't constitute “outdoor activity” under the new executive order.
