The Chicago Yacht Club-Race To Mackinac is coming this weekend! It’s the longest annual freshwater sailing race in the world, and Leelanau has an awesome view of the action as seen in Ken Scott’s superb timelapse from 2009.

If you’re wondering when to catch a glimpse of them, Pyewacket set the monohull record in 2002 with a time of 23 hours, 30 minutes and 34 seconds. As the race starts at noon on Friday and usually takes between 40-60 hours to finish, they usually are in the Manitou Passage from morning to evening on Saturday (depending on wind).
