Golden Rule bringing message of peace to Traverse City

Golden Rule off Diamond Head captain Katie ThompsonThe historic peace boat Golden Rule is visiting our area today. Although they had planned to come to Traverse City today, circumstances are forcing them to remain in Northport.

The vessel will be at the ADA dock on the north end of Northport Harbor today and will offer tours from noon to 2pm.

The crew will be on hand in Traverse City at 4:30pm for the Northern Michigan Rally for Peace featuring a stellar lineup of speakers and musicians.

The Golden Rule Project aims to advance Veterans for Peace’s position of opposing nuclear weapons and war, while seeking peaceful alternatives to war. They have recovered and restored the original peace boat, the Golden Rule, that set sail in 1958 to stop nuclear testing in the atmosphere, and which inspired many peace makers and peace ships that followed. The restored Golden Rule is voyaging once more, to show that a nuclear peace is possible, and that bravery and tenacity can overcome militarism.
