Leelanau Almanac for the Week of April 27 – May 3, 2006

Manitou Passage in Glass
Cherry blossoms came out this week. They’re not fully out but the orchards are beautiful! We also had reports of people finding ample morels (mostly black morels but already there are some whites).

News from the Week

The week’s top story was Derith Smith and Northport’s Village Council all retaining their seats and fighting off recall attempts (story also includes school election results). Another major story was Sugar Loaf announcing plans for a renovation that include a focus on extreme sports and an RV park (this provoked some head-scratching and skepticism in our reader comments). Other news stories were a cherry blossom forecast and reports that Suttons Bay & Traverse City Schools are exploring how Suttons Bay could fit into the TCAPS system.
