Leelanau Conservancy to reopen Sugar Loaf

The Leelanau Conservancy dropped the most exciting local news in recent memory last night with the announcement that they would be acquiring long dormant Sugar Loaf Resort.

To make it happen, Leelanau Conservancy must raise $8 million by December 31. It sounds like a lot, but support from donors has cut that to just $1.6 million!

Plans include opportunities to

  • Hike: An extensive trail system including an accessible, allabilities trail
  • Ride: Mountain bike trails
  • Climb: The stepway to the summit
  • Play: A children’s nature playscape, a sledding hill
  • Relax: Two pavilions to provide respite
  • View: The iconic scenic vista from the top
