Leelanau Trail & Sleeping Bear Heritage Trail are inaugural Pure Michigan Trails!
While the photo shows two Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore employees at work shoring up a section of walkway on the Empire Bluff Trail last May, we want to share the news that Pure Michigan has named two Leelanau County trails among the first recipients of the Pure Michigan® Trails and Pure Michigan® Trail Towns by the Department of Natural Resources: The Leelanau Trail and the Sleeping Bear Heritage Trail, both primarily managed & supported by donations through TART Trails.
To all of them: the National Park Service, the Michigan Department of Natural Resources, Bike Leelanau, Leelanau State Park, Friends of Sleeping Bear Dunes, the villages & townships who maintain trails, businesses like 45 North Vineyard & Winery and Black Star Farms that maintain trails, TART Trails & the Leelanau Conservancy (for real), and all of you who support our varied trails through your donations of time & labor & enjoy them safely and with care for the trails and the wonders they lead to: THANK YOU FOR ALL YOU DO!
